Ripollet takes its name from the river beside it: the town is a diminutive of the Ripoll, which crosses it from northwest to southeast on its way to the Besòs. The AMB places it in the lower Ripoll valley, within the Prelitoral Depression, with Barberà del Vallès to the north, Montcada i Reixac to the east and southeast, and Cerdanyola del Vallès to the south and southwest.
