The airport

One terminal, south of Girona

Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO) stands on land in the municipalities of Aiguaviva and Vilobí d'Onyar, ten kilometers south of Girona, and opened to domestic and international passenger and cargo flights on 3 March 1967. Aena, which runs it, links its growth to the arrival of budget airlines in 2003, after which traffic passed three and a half million passengers in 2006; in 2025 it handled 2,185,561 passengers. They use one terminal, and Aena calls the airport a gateway to the Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees region.

Its position sets the pattern of the journeys from it. Girona is a short drive north, Lloret de Mar, the nearest coastal town in our route data, is 35 km away, and Barcelona is 97 km to the south, all by road without traffic. The routes below follow those three directions: into the city, out to the coast town by town, and down to Barcelona. Each route page shows its road distance and driving time from the terminal, an OpenStreetMap estimate with its source and the date it was checked.

Every transfer is quoted on request: send the flight number and landing time, the address at the other end, and the number of guests and bags.

Planning a transfer from Girona Airport

One terminal

Aena describes one terminal that it keeps enlarging, with a bigger check-in lobby and security checkpoints, a new public access to the boarding area and more boarding gates. Unlike Barcelona's airport, there is no terminal to choose here: your flight number and landing time are what the request needs.

Girona or Barcelona Airport

For Girona and the coast, the drive from this airport is much shorter. By road without traffic, Girona is 13 km from here against 117 km from Barcelona's Terminal 1, and Tossa de Mar is 46 km against 104 km. For an address in Barcelona the comparison turns around: 97 km, about 1 h 20 min from Girona-Costa Brava, against 17 km, about 20 min from Barcelona's Terminal 1. All are OpenStreetMap estimates checked September 30, 2026.

Buses from the airport

Aena's list of bus lines links the airport with Girona, with towns on the Costa Brava, with Barcelona's Estació del Nord and both terminals of Barcelona-El Prat, inland with Vic, Manresa, Cervera, Tàrrega and Lleida, and with Perpignan and other French cities. Each bus company sets its own timetable and fares. A private transfer runs from the terminal to the address you give.
