The country
Seven parishes and a border to cross
Andorra is divided into seven parishes: Canillo, Encamp, Ordino, La Massana, Andorra la Vella, Sant Julià de Lòria and Escaldes-Engordany. Its capital is Andorra la Vella. The country is not part of the European Union or the Schengen area and can only be reached through Spain or France, so a journey from Barcelona ends with a border crossing, and you need the travel documents your nationality requires. Andorra's tourism site says the borders with Spain and France are open day and night, all year round.
The ski areas in Andorra include Grandvalira, which says it has 138 slopes over 215 km in seven sectors, Pal Arinsal, with 47 slopes over 63 km in two sectors, and Ordino Arcalís, the most northerly, with 30.5 km of slopes. Grandvalira announced in July 2022 that from the 2022-23 season its ski passes would also give access to Ordino Arcalís and Pal Arinsal.
The directory below covers the journeys that start or end in Andorra: transfers from Barcelona to each parish and ski area that has its own page, the routes back to Barcelona and Barcelona Airport, and the journey from the airport. Every journey is quoted on request.

Planning a journey to Andorra
Border and documents
Entering Andorra means leaving the Schengen area. Andorra's tourism site says EU citizens need a passport or national ID card to enter or leave the country, and citizens of non-EU Schengen countries must carry a valid passport. Travelers who need a Schengen visa must hold one valid for at least two entries, or a multiple-entry visa if they will cross several times. Minors traveling without a parent or legal guardian need a valid ID card or passport, a declaration of departure issued at a police station, and a signed authorization from their parents or legal representatives with copies of their passports. Check the current rules for your nationality before you travel.
Shopping and customs
The Government of Andorra says travelers returning to the EU may carry set quantities or values of goods bought in Andorra per person without paying duties or taxes, and must declare at customs any goods above those individual allowances. The Spanish Tax Agency publishes the allowances that apply when you enter Spain from Andorra.
Winter on the road
The routed estimate from Barcelona to Andorra la Vella follows the C-16, then the N-260, the N-145 and, inside Andorra, the CG-1. The Generalitat de Catalunya says traffic on the Berga to Bagà section of the C-16 is heaviest in winter and can triple journey times, with peaks on Friday afternoons heading north and Sunday afternoons heading south. The road estimates on this page do not include traffic.
