Plaça dels Països Catalans

Barcelona's main railway station

Barcelona Sants, Estació de Barcelona-Sants in Catalan, is the main railway station of the city. Its address is Plaça dels Països Catalans, west of the city center, within the Sants neighborhood of Sants-Montjuïc, and its owner is Adif, the state rail infrastructure manager. The station opened in 1975. Its platforms lie underground, and the Hotel Barceló Sants occupies most of the upper floors of the main building.

Several kinds of train call here. The long-distance services include AVE, Avlo, Ouigo, Iryo, Euromed and the TGV to France, and regional trains and Rodalies commuter lines also stop at Sants. Metro lines L3 and L5 serve it at Sants Estació, and an international bus station with the same name stands alongside.

This hub gathers the journeys that begin or end at the station: the transfers from Sants to Barcelona Airport and to the cruise terminals of the Port de Barcelona, the transfer from the airport to a train, a chauffeur for other trips from Sants, and the neighborhoods around the station, each with its own page. Quotes are made on request for each journey, from the train or flight times, the pickup and drop-off points and how many people and bags are traveling.

Planning a journey through Barcelona Sants

Check the station on your ticket

High-speed and long-distance trains, regional trains and Rodalies commuter lines all call at Sants. Make sure your ticket names Barcelona Sants as the station, and send the train number and its time with your request, so the quote is planned around that train.

A train and a flight on one day

Terminal 1 is 17 km, about 20 min by road without traffic from the station, and the drive the other way, from Terminal 1 to the station, is 15 km, about 20 min by road without traffic. Add the time for bags, check-in and traffic, and send both the train and the flight times, so the transfer fits between them. If you need to change terminal at the airport, Aena runs a free shuttle between T1 and T2.

A train and a ship on one day

The cruise terminals on the Adossat quay are 7 km, about 15 min by road without traffic from the station. The port lets private vehicles in to drop off passengers and luggage but not to park, and it is gathering its cruise terminals on the Adossat quay, so check the terminal named in your cruise documents.

A night near the station

The Hotel Barceló Sants is in the station building itself, and Hostafrancs, Sants and La Bordeta all lie within about a kilometer in a straight line. A transfer can start or end at your hotel as well as at the station.

Questions about Barcelona Sants transfers

Will my train arrive at Barcelona Sants?

Check the ticket. Sants is served by AVE, Avlo, Ouigo, Iryo, Euromed and TGV trains, as well as regional trains and Rodalies lines (Viquipèdia). If your ticket names another Barcelona station, give that station in your request instead.

How far is Sants station from the airport and the cruise port?

Terminal 1 is 17 km, about 20 min by road without traffic from the station, and the cruise terminals on the Adossat quay are 7 km, about 15 min by road without traffic (OpenStreetMap routing, checked September 30, 2026). Each route page shows its own estimate and source.

Is there a hotel in the station building?

Yes. The Hotel Barceló Sants occupies most of the upper floors of the station's main building (Wikipedia). Give it, or any other hotel, as your pickup or drop-off address.

Can I book a car from the airport to catch a train at Sants?

Yes, that is the Barcelona Airport to Sants Station transfer. Send the flight and the train together, so the gap between landing and departure is part of the plan.

What do I send for a quote from or to Barcelona Sants?

The train number and time, where you are going or coming from (a flight, a ship or an address), the date, and the number of guests and bags. Send it by WhatsApp or with the quote form.
