Of the three neighborhoods in the district that carries its name, on the west side of Barcelona, Les Corts was the main core of the former municipality of Les Corts de Sarrià. That town split from Sarrià in 1836 and joined Barcelona by royal decree in 1897. In 2021 about 46,000 people lived on its 141 hectares, which reach across Avinguda Diagonal: Sants lies to the south, Pedralbes and La Maternitat i Sant Ramon to the west, and the Eixample to the east.
The village square, Plaça de la Concòrdia, with the church of Santa Maria del Remei, is only a few blocks from large office buildings. On Gran Via de Carles III stand the four Trade towers, designed by Josep Antoni Coderch and Manuel Valls and built between 1966 and 1971. On the Diagonal, L'Illa Diagonal by Rafael Moneo and Manuel de Solà-Morales combines offices, shops and a hotel in one long block. FC Barcelona's stadium lies just across the boundary, in La Maternitat i Sant Ramon.
