Sants-Montjuïc district, Barcelona
Chauffeur Service in Hostafrancs
Hostafrancs began as an inn for travelers who reached Barcelona after the city gates had shut, and it still sits between two transport hubs, Barcelona Sants and Plaça d'Espanya. From here a driver serves trains, trade fairs, the airport and the cruise terminals.
Sants-Montjuïc district
Hostafrancs, an inn on the Madrid road
Hostafrancs owes its name to an inn. Joan Corrades i Bosch bought land here in 1840 and named his hostal after his home village, Hostafrancs de Sió in the Segarra, and travelers on the Madrid road who reached Barcelona after the city gates had shut could stop there for the night. The area had belonged to Santa Maria de Sants until 1839, when the provincial council moved the stretch from Pont d'en Rabassa to Creu Coberta into Barcelona.
Today Hostafrancs belongs to the Sants-Montjuïc district: 41 hectares, home to 16,102 people in 2021, with the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, Carrer de Tarragona and Sants as its edges. Its commercial street, Carrer de la Creu Coberta, runs over a branch of the Roman Via Augusta, and the iron-built Mercat d'Hostafrancs opened on it in 1888.
The neighborhood sits between two transport hubs. Plaça d'Espanya and Espanya station mark its eastern edge, Barcelona Sants station lies just to the north, and Fira Barcelona's Montjuïc exhibition grounds are on the far side of the square. From here a driver can take you to a train, a trade fair, the airport or the cruise terminals. Give the street, the time and the size of your party, and the journey is quoted for you.
