What the transfer covers
Tarragona, the provincial capital, sits on the Costa Daurada where the Francolí river meets the Mediterranean. Two thousand years ago it was Tarraco: UNESCO calls it the first and oldest Roman settlement on the Iberian Peninsula and the capital of the province of Hispania Citerior, and the Archaeological Ensemble of Tarraco has been on the World Heritage List from 2000. The Roman walls, the amphitheatre near the shore, the circus and the provincial forum still set the plan of the historic centre, where the cathedral, from the 12th and 13th centuries, mixes Romanesque and Gothic. The city also has one of the largest ports in Spain.
Some make this drive for a meeting, others for a day among the ruins. Out of Barcelona the routed line takes the C-31, then the C-32 along the Garraf coast to the AP-7, which carries it south until the A-7 leads into the city. That is 95 km on the road estimate, and without traffic the drive takes about 1 h 20 min. For a meeting, work back from the time you need to be there and allow for traffic leaving Barcelona.

Start of the journey
Pickup in Barcelona
Pickup is at the address you send in Barcelona: a hotel, an office, an apartment or a home. Business travelers coming off a high-speed train and cruise passengers ending their trip in Barcelona can start from the Sants station transfer or the cruise port transfer pages.
If you are landing, there is a separate Barcelona Airport to Tarragona page, and a Reus Airport to Tarragona page for flights into Reus.

End of the journey
Arrival in Tarragona
The transfer ends at the address in Tarragona that you give: a hotel on or near the Rambla Nova, the city's main shopping street, an address in the historic centre, or an office or hotel near the harbor and El Serrallo, the old fishing quarter. Send the street and number with the time you need to arrive.
If you need a car in Tarragona after you arrive, for meetings or for a few hours around the city, see the chauffeur service in Tarragona.

Why book a private chauffeur

Work on the way
An hour or more in a private car is time for calls and papers before a meeting in Tarragona, without a change of train or a taxi queue at the other end.
Arrive for the time that matters
Give the time of your meeting, your hotel check-in or your visit, and ask for a pickup time in Barcelona that gets you there for it.
A stop at Les Ferreres
The Les Ferreres aqueduct stands outside the city, one of the World Heritage elements in the surrounding territory. If you want to see it before you reach your address, add it to your request as a stop.
Return from Tarragona to Barcelona
There is no separate page for the Tarragona to Barcelona transfer. Ask for the return in the same request, with its date and time, and we quote both directions.

Questions about the Barcelona to Tarragona transfer
What is the driving time from Barcelona to Tarragona?
It is about 1 h 20 min by road for about 95 km, from Plaça de Catalunya to Tarragona (estimate: OpenStreetMap road routing, no traffic, checked September 30, 2026). The estimate follows the C-31 and the C-32, then the AP-7 and the A-7. Traffic on the way out of Barcelona adds to the real time.
Can we see the Roman sites before checking in?
Yes, add the stop to your request with how long you want there. The UNESCO site includes the amphitheater, the circus and the walls in the city, and elements outside it such as the Les Ferreres aqueduct and the Berà Arch (UNESCO). For a guided day, the Roman Tarragona and Mediterranean Sitges private tour covers Tarragona and Sitges.
I want to visit Tarragona for the day and come back. Which page is that?
This page is a one-way transfer to an address. For a day in the city with your own chauffeur and the drive back to Barcelona, see the Tarragona day trip.
Is the Roman amphitheater beside the sea?
Close to it. The 2nd-century amphitheater stands near the seashore, and after the fall of the Western Roman Empire it was used as a quarry for stone (Wikipedia). Give it as a stop or as the drop-off; for a hotel, send the street, for example on the Rambla Nova, the city's main shopping street.
