Pickup at Barcelona Airport

How the pickup at Barcelona Airport is arranged is confirmed in the reply to your quote request.

Send the flight number and the scheduled landing time, and the terminal if you know it, so the quote matches your arrival.

Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat (BCN) has two passenger terminals, T1 and T2. Both stand in El Prat de Llobregat, the municipality that holds over 90% of the airport, with the remainder in Sant Boi and Viladecans (Aena). Terminal 2 has three parts, T2 A, T2 B and T2 C, and Aena's free shuttle bus between T1 and T2 runs day and night, every day of the year (Aena). The road estimate on this page is measured from Terminal 1; the Terminal 2 figure is shown next to it.

From El Prat to Madrid by road

Madrid, the capital and largest city of Spain, stands on the Manzanares at about 660 m, which Wikipedia says makes it the second-highest capital in Europe after Andorra la Vella. From the airport it is a long road journey: 610 km, about 6 h 45 min by road without traffic from Terminal 1, with a Terminal 2 variant a few kilometers longer.

The airport lies on the south-west side of Barcelona, so the route never crosses the city. It follows the C-31 and the C-32 along the Garraf coast past Sitges, touches the AP-7 for a few kilometers and turns inland on the AP-2 past Lleida and Fraga. The Z-40 takes it around Zaragoza, and the A-2, the Autovía del Nordeste, carries it west past Calatayud, the hilltop town of Medinaceli and Alcalá de Henares before it enters Madrid along the Avenida de América.

After a flight, a drive this long fills the rest of the day, so your landing time sets the arrival. Add the driving time and a few breaks to the time you land to see when you would reach Madrid. If that is late at night, a night in Barcelona and the Barcelona to Madrid journey the next morning is the alternative.

Drop-off in Madrid

The transfer ends at the Madrid address in your request: a hotel, a home, an office or a rented apartment. The quote is for that address, so send it in full.

If you are continuing by train or by plane from Madrid, give the station or the airport terminal as the drop-off, together with the departure time, and the plan allows for it.

Back from Madrid to Barcelona Airport

There is no separate page for the drive back to the airport. Add the return to the same request, or ask for it on its own with your departure flight.

Questions about Barcelona Airport to Madrid transfers

How many hours does the motorway drive to Madrid take, before breaks?

From Terminal 1 at Barcelona Airport to Madrid, the road estimate is about 610 km and about 6 h 45 min (estimate: OpenStreetMap road routing, no traffic, checked September 30, 2026); from Terminal 2 it is about 7 km longer. Breaks come on top: Spain's DGT recommends stopping every two hours or 200 km.

Can we stop somewhere on the way after a long flight?

Yes, put the stop in your request with the time you want there. The routed line passes about 1 km from Zaragoza and about 1 km from Medinaceli, a hilltop town above the Jalón valley with what Wikipedia calls the only three-gated Roman arch in Spain. Near the end it passes about 2 km from Alcalá de Henares, birthplace of Cervantes, whose university and historic precinct became a World Heritage Site in 1998.

Does the transfer pass through Barcelona city?

No. The estimate leaves the airport south-west along the coast on the C-31 and C-32, then heads inland on the AP-2 towards Lleida and Zaragoza. If you need a stop in Barcelona first, for example to collect someone, add the address to the request.

We land in the evening. Should we stay in Barcelona and drive to Madrid the next day?

It is your choice. The Barcelona Airport to Barcelona city transfer takes you to your hotel, and the Barcelona to Madrid journey starts from it the following day. Both can be quoted in one request.
