What the transfer covers

Monaco is not part of France. Article 1 of its Constitution defines the Principality of Monaco as a sovereign and independent State, within the general principles of international law and its particular conventions with France. It is also tiny: Wikipedia ranks it the second-smallest sovereign state in the world after Vatican City, bordered by France to the north, east and west and by the Mediterranean to the south, with Italy about 15 km away. The city rises from the sea in quarters: Monaco-Ville on the Rock, with the Prince's Palace and the Oceanographic Museum, La Condamine around Port Hercule, Fontvieille on reclaimed land, and Monte Carlo with its casino.

This is the longest of the Riviera drives from Barcelona on this site, so it pays to plan the day. The estimate leaves the city for the AP-7, crosses into France and runs on the A 9 and the A 54 into Provence. For its final 200 km or so it keeps to the A 8, La Provençale, past Cannes and Nice, before turning down into the principality. Your own chauffeur covers the whole distance, from the first address in Barcelona to the last one in Monaco.

Start of the journey

Pickup in Barcelona

We start at the address you send in Barcelona: a hotel, an apartment, a home or an office. Give the time you want to leave, or the hour you need to be in Monaco, and the quote is planned around it.

Flying into Barcelona first? Name Barcelona Airport as the pickup and add the flight number.

End of the journey

Arrival in Monaco

Drop-off is at the address you give in Monaco: a hotel or residence in Monte Carlo, an apartment in Fontvieille or La Condamine, or Port Hercule if you are joining a yacht. Send the full address, or the berth and pier for a boat.

If you are flying out afterwards, Nice Côte d'Azur Airport, about 20 km to the southwest, is the principality's main airport gateway and can be given as the drop-off instead.

Why book a private chauffeur

  1. Two borders, one vehicle

The drive leaves Spain for France and then France for Monaco. The vehicle that collects you in Barcelona is the one that drops you in the principality.

  2. Straight to the quayside

Joining a yacht at Port Hercule? Give the berth and the time you are expected on board, and the drive is planned around it.

  3. A long day, your breaks

On a drive of this length, choose where to stop: a lunch in Provence near Aix-en-Provence or Arles, or a pause in Cannes or Nice before the last stretch.

  4. Grand Prix and event travel

Monaco hosts the Monaco Grand Prix each year, one of the original Formula One races. If you travel for it or another event, send the dates and the address as early as you can.

Questions about the Barcelona to Monaco transfer

Is the drive to Monaco a full day?

Plan it as one. Monaco is about 685 km from Plaça de Catalunya by road, about 7 h 25 min of driving (estimate: OpenStreetMap road routing, no traffic, checked September 30, 2026), the longest of the three Riviera estimates on this site, after Cannes and Nice. Breaks, traffic on the coast and the exact addresses come on top.

Is Monaco a separate country from France?

Yes. Article 1 of the Constitution of Monaco states that the Principality of Monaco is a sovereign and independent State, within the general principles of international law and its particular conventions with France. Its government describes the principality as a hereditary and constitutional monarchy (gouv.mc).

What documents do we need for Monaco?

For the drive through France: Spain and France are Schengen countries, where checks at internal borders have been abolished but can be brought back for a time (European Commission), and the EU's Your Europe site recommends carrying a passport or ID card. For Monaco itself, the principality's public service portal says nationals of the European Economic Area need only a passport or a valid identity card. Other travelers need a valid passport and a Schengen visa, though some nationalities are exempt from the visa for stays under 90 days, and once a Schengen visa is held, a visit needs no additional formalities (Mon Service Public).

Is Nice Côte d'Azur the airport for Monaco?

It is the principality's main gateway, about 20 km from Monaco (Wikipedia). If you only need to reach the airport, give it as the drop-off with your terminal and flight time, or see the Barcelona to Nice route.

We are joining a yacht in Port Hercule. Can the drop-off be at the quay?

Yes. Send the berth or quay and the boat's name as the drop-off address. Port Hercule, in La Condamine, is Monaco's only deep-water port, with anchorage for up to 700 vessels and docks for cruise ships (Wikipedia).
