What the transfer covers

Marseille is the second-largest city proper in France after Paris, and the prefecture of the Bouches-du-Rhône. Greek settlers from Phocaea founded it around 600 BC as Massalia, and the harbour they used, the Old Port, is still where the city gathers. Today it holds a marina, a fish market and boats out to the nearby islands, and in 2013 much of the quayside was given over to pedestrians. The MuCEM museum stands at the harbour mouth beside Fort Saint-Jean, while Notre-Dame de la Garde looks down from a limestone outcrop on the south side, the highest natural point in the city.

Getting there from Barcelona means following the coast almost all day. The estimated route uses the AP-7 to La Jonquera and continues on the A 9 past Narbonne and Montpellier to Nîmes. There it switches to the A 54, which links Nîmes with Salon-de-Provence by way of Arles, and finishes on the A 7, the Autoroute du Soleil, whose southern end is in Marseille. Your chauffeur drives the whole way, from the Barcelona pickup to the street you name in Marseille.

Start of the journey

Pickup in Barcelona

Pickup is at the address you send in Barcelona: a hotel, an apartment or a private home. Add the time you want to leave, or the time you must reach Marseille, and the quote is prepared on that basis.

Arrival in Marseille

Drop-off is at the address you give in Marseille. Around the Old Port, much of the quayside became pedestrian in 2013, so give the exact hotel name or street address rather than simply the port.

For onward travel, Marseille-Saint-Charles is the city's main railway station, and Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) is at Marignane, about 27 km northwest of the city. Either can be the drop-off address.

Around the Old Port

  1. The Old Port (Vieux-Port)

The natural harbour of the Greek city of Massalia, now a marina with a fish market and boats to the islands. It became mainly pedestrian in 2013.

  2. Notre-Dame de la Garde

The basilica known locally as la Bonne Mère, on a 149 m limestone outcrop on the south side of the Old Port, with a gilded statue of the Madonna and Child on its bell tower.

  3. MuCEM

The Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations, opened in June 2013 at the harbour entrance and linked by footbridge to the 17th century Fort Saint-Jean.

  4. Calanques National Park

Why book a private chauffeur

  1. Arles on the way

The routed line passes within a kilometer of Arles, whose Roman and Romanesque monuments UNESCO listed in 1981. A stop there fits naturally into a drive this long: add it to your request with the time you want.

  2. Your own pace on a long day

Choose when to leave Barcelona and where to break the journey, for example in Montpellier or Nîmes, instead of planning around a timetable.

  3. Timed for a flight from Marignane

If you fly out of Marseille Provence Airport after the drive, give the flight time and the departure from Barcelona is worked back from it.

  4. The precise address at the port

Because the Old Port quays are now largely pedestrian, sending the exact address of your hotel or apartment helps plan the arrival.

Return from Marseille to Barcelona

There is no separate page for the Marseille to Barcelona transfer. Ask for the return in the same request, with its date and time, and we quote both directions.

Questions about the Barcelona to Marseille transfer

Is Marseille within a day's drive of Barcelona?

Yes. On the estimate, Marseille lies about 505 km from Plaça de Catalunya, about 5 h 30 min of driving (estimate: OpenStreetMap road routing, no traffic, checked September 30, 2026). Breaks, traffic around Montpellier or Marseille and the exact addresses all lengthen the day.

Which way does the route go?

Along the coast first, then inland across Provence: the AP-7 north from Barcelona, the A 9 past Perpignan, Narbonne, Béziers and Montpellier, the A 54 from Nîmes by way of Arles to Salon-de-Provence, and the A 7 into Marseille.

Can you drop us right at the Old Port?

The quays around the Old Port became mainly pedestrian in 2013 (Wikipedia), so send the exact address of your hotel or apartment and the arrival is planned to that street.

Is Marseille Provence Airport in Marseille itself?

No. It is at Marignane, about 27 km northwest of the city, with the code MRS (Wikipedia), while Marseille-Saint-Charles is the city's main station (Wikipedia). Either can be the drop-off: give the time of your flight or train, and the start in Barcelona is planned around it.
