What the transfer covers

Blanes sits at the southern end of the Costa Brava, in the county of la Selva. The Catalan Wikipedia calls it the town that gives entry to the Costa Brava from the Barcelona counties, while the Costa Brava guide published by the Generalitat de Catalunya picks out Sa Palomera, a jagged rock between the port and the beach, as the symbolic milestone where that coast starts. The town grew around a semicircular bay under a hill crowned by the ruins of the castle of Sant Joan, and its fishing port still matters to the local economy. On the cliffs above the cove of Sa Forcanera, the Marimurtra Botanical Garden, created by the German industrialist Karl Faust, looks straight out to sea.

Unlike the drives to the middle of the Costa Brava, this one stays close to the shore. The road estimate is 70 km, about 1 h by road without traffic: it follows the C-32, the Maresme motorway, up the coast past Mataró, leaves it at Tordera and crosses into Blanes on the GI-600. The mouth of the Tordera river marks the line between Blanes and the Maresme. A transfer here can end at a seafront hotel, a flat near S'Abanell beach, a family home or the gate of the botanical garden.

Start of the journey

Pickup in Barcelona

Pickup is at the Barcelona address in your request, such as a hotel, a rented flat, a home or an office. Give the street and number with the time you would like to set off.

Coming straight from a flight? Use the Barcelona Airport to Costa Brava transfer instead, with your flight number in the request; it covers journeys that begin at the terminal.

End of the journey

Arrival in Blanes

The journey ends at the door you name in Blanes: the seafront between the port and Sa Palomera, an apartment by S'Abanell beach south of the rock, a house in one of the residential areas, or the entrance of the Marimurtra garden for a visit.

Staying farther along the southern Costa Brava? Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar have their own pages, the Barcelona to Lloret de Mar transfer and the Barcelona to Tossa de Mar transfer, each with its own road estimate.

A Catalan flag flies on top of Sa Palomera all year round, and the rock is the stage for the town's international fireworks competition (Viquipèdia). The Marimurtra garden is listed as a cultural asset of national interest, and its Linnaeus temple, a ring of columns under a tiled dome, stands on a cliff over the water (Viquipèdia).

  1. To the right stretch of shore

Hotels, flats and homes in Blanes spread from the port to S'Abanell beach and up into the residential areas. The drop-off is the door you send, not a stop on the main road.

  2. Close enough for a day out

At about 1 h by road without traffic, Blanes can be a day out from Barcelona. Ask for both directions in one request and give the time you want to head back.

  3. The garden first

If you would like to see Marimurtra before you reach your hotel, put the garden in the request as a stop, with the time you plan to arrive.

Return from Blanes to Barcelona

There is no separate page for the Blanes to Barcelona transfer. Ask for the return in the same request, with its date and time, and we quote both directions.

How quickly can we be in Blanes from central Barcelona?

The estimate from Plaça de Catalunya to Blanes is about 70 km, which takes about 1 h when the roads are clear (estimate: OpenStreetMap road routing, no traffic, checked September 30, 2026). The exact address in Blanes and the traffic on the day change the real time.

Does the transfer follow the coast or go inland?

It follows the coast. The estimate takes the C-32 up the Maresme past Mataró, leaves it at Tordera and enters Blanes on the GI-600 (estimate: OpenStreetMap road routing, no traffic, checked September 30, 2026). The northern section of the C-32) runs along the Maresme coastline toward Tordera.

Why is Blanes called the start of the Costa Brava?

The Generalitat de Catalunya's Costa Brava guide says the coast ends, or begins, in Blanes, and treats Sa Palomera, the rock between the port and the beach, as its symbolic milestone. From Blanes the Costa Brava carries on north through Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar.

Can the transfer end at the Marimurtra Botanical Garden?

Name the garden as the drop-off address, or as a stop before your hotel, and the quote is worked out that way. The garden stands on the cliffs above the sea at Blanes (Viquipèdia); check its visiting times before you travel.

Where are the Blanes fireworks set off?

From Sa Palomera, the rock between the port and the beach. A Catalan flag flies on top of it all year round, and it is the stage for the town's international fireworks competition (Viquipèdia). The dates change from year to year, so check the town's program first; for an evening display, give its start time in your request.
