What the transfer covers

Peratallada stands on a sandstone outcrop in the Baix Empordà, and its name describes the place: documents from the 10th century onward record it as Petra scissa, cut stone. A moat dug into the bare rock surrounds the old core, and inside it are the castle with its keep and palace, built between the 11th and the 14th centuries, and walls of the 12th and 13th. The village tourist office counts it among the most important places in Catalonia for medieval architecture, and it is protected as a historic-artistic site and a cultural asset of national interest. Peratallada was a municipality of its own until 1977, when it joined Vulpellac and Fonteta to form Forallac.

Out of Barcelona, the estimate follows the AP-7 north, turns off onto the C-35 and then the C-65, runs north for a while on the C-31, uses a short stretch of the C-66 and comes into the village on the GI-651. Once you are there, Peratallada is a place to explore on foot: the lanes are narrow, the old core is closed to most traffic, and the tourist office notes that the village is known for its crafts and above all for its food.

Start of the journey

Pickup in Barcelona

Tell us where to collect you in Barcelona, whether a hotel, a holiday flat, a family home or a workplace, and the time you would like to set off.

If your flight lands in Barcelona and you are going straight to the Empordà, the Barcelona Airport to Costa Brava transfer starts at the terminal instead.

Arrival in Peratallada

The town council of Forallac restricts vehicle access inside the medieval core and has laid out three large car parks around the village. If you are staying in Peratallada, name the hotel or give its address, and ask the hotel how its guests arrive. For a day visit, a clear drop-off point outside the walls is the Romanesque church of Sant Esteve, which has one of the car parks in front of it, on the GI-651.

The tourist office describes Peratallada as one of the most visited places on the Costa Brava, and in the busiest periods its car parks are a pay-and-display blue zone (Visit Peratallada). By public transport, its directions involve a train to Girona or Flaçà and a bus, with fewer services on to Vulpellac and Peratallada than to neighboring La Bisbal (Visit Peratallada).

Recorded by 1065. Its tall rectangular keep, crowned with square merlons, is the village's emblem, and the palace faces east onto Plaça del Castell.

Why book a private chauffeur

  1. No search for a parking space

Cars stay out of the old core and visitors park outside it. A transfer leaves you at your hotel or at the edge of the old village, with no car to park.

  2. An inland village, reached directly

Peratallada is off the coast road, and by public transport the trip means a train and a bus. A private transfer runs from your address in Barcelona to the village.

  3. Timed for lunch

If you have a table booked in one of the village restaurants, put the time in your request and the pickup in Barcelona is planned around it.

  4. Other medieval villages on the way

The Generalitat's guide puts Peratallada on one inland route with Ullastret, Palau-sator, Sant Julià de Boada and Pals. If you want to stop in one of them, add it to the request.

Questions about the Barcelona to Peratallada transfer

What time should we allow for the road to Peratallada?

Allow about 1 h 50 min without traffic; the estimate from Plaça de Catalunya to Peratallada is about 135 km (estimate: OpenStreetMap road routing, no traffic, checked September 30, 2026). A stop on the way and where you are staying in the village change the real time.

Can the car drive into the old village?

Vehicle access inside the medieval core is restricted by the town council of Forallac, to protect the old village and the residents' quality of life, and three car parks around it take visitors' cars (Visit Peratallada). If your hotel is inside the walls, give its name with the request and check with the hotel how guests arrive.

What does the name Peratallada mean?

Cut stone. The village is recorded from the 10th century as Petra scissa or Petra Tallada, and the name fits: the houses sit on sandstone, and the moat around the walls was dug straight into the rock (Visit Peratallada).

Can we combine Peratallada with Pals or the coves of Begur?

Pals is on the same inland route as Peratallada in the Generalitat's Costa Brava guide. Add a stop to your request, or see the Barcelona to Pals transfer and the Barcelona to Begur transfer if you are staying there.

Can we get to Peratallada by public transport instead?

Partly. The village's tourist office suggests the train to Girona or Flaçà and then a Moventis bus, which runs often to La Bisbal and less often to Vulpellac and Peratallada (Visit Peratallada). A transfer goes from your address in Barcelona to the village with no change on the way.
