What the transfer covers

The Val d'Aran is the corner of Catalonia that drains to the Atlantic. Its tourism office explains that the valley's main river, the Garona, flows north through Aquitaine and reaches the sea past Bordeaux, and that 30% of the land lies above 2,000 m. Some 10,000 people live in its 33 villages. Aranese, the valley's form of Occitan, is official here together with Catalan and Spanish, and Aran has its own government, the Conselh Generau d'Aran, based in Vielha.

Four roads lead in: over the Bonaigua pass from the Pallars, through the Vielha tunnel from the Alta Ribagorça, from France at Pont de Rei, and over the Portilhon pass from Bagnères-de-Luchon. The estimate on this page uses the tunnel. It runs out of Barcelona on the B-23 and the A-2 toward Lleida, then up the A-14 and the N-230 to Vielha. The tourism office dates the road over the Bonaigua to 1924, but only the tunnel, opened in 1948, connected the valley with the rest of Spain all year round. This transfer covers the trip from your address in Barcelona to the village and address you give in Aran.

Start of the journey

Pickup in Barcelona

Collection is at the address you give in Barcelona: a hotel, an apartment, a home or an office. Send it with the date and the time you would like to set off.

For a journey that begins at the airport, see Barcelona Airport transfers and include your flight number in the request.

End of the journey

Arrival in the Val d'Aran

Drop-off is at the address you give in any of the valley's villages, for example Vielha, Bossòst, Les, Arties, Salardú or Baqueira. The estimate ends in Vielha, the capital, so a village higher up the valley or closer to France changes the length of the drive.

If your address is at the ski area itself, the Barcelona to Baqueira Beret transfer has its own estimate, which approaches over the Bonaigua pass.

The tourism office notes that the valley has no direct train line and no airport, so every arrival ends by road (Visit Val d'Aran). Mountain roads change quickly in winter: the Servei Català de Trànsit publishes current incidents on Catalan roads.

Why book a private chauffeur

  1. The village you are staying in

Buses run to the valley from Barcelona, but your stay may be in a village well beyond the capital. A private transfer ends at the address you give, in Les, Arties or Salardú as much as in Vielha.

  2. Gear for any season

List skis, hiking packs or bicycles with the suitcases and the number of guests, so the quote is worked out for what your group brings.

  3. A stop along the N-230

The route passes Lleida and Benabarre. If you want a break on the way, put it in the request.

  4. Around the weekend traffic

Tell us the time you would like to leave Barcelona, or when you need to arrive in the valley, and the quote is planned around it.

Return from the Val d'Aran to Barcelona

There is no separate page for the Val d'Aran to Barcelona transfer. Ask for the return in the same request, with its date and time, and we quote both directions.

Questions about the Barcelona to Val d'Aran transfer

What distance is the Val d'Aran from Barcelona, measured to Vielha?

The estimate runs to Vielha, the valley's capital: about 313 km and about 4 h 10 min from Plaça de Catalunya (estimate: OpenStreetMap road routing, no traffic, checked September 30, 2026). Villages higher up the valley or toward France add to that, and so do traffic, weather and stops.

Vielha tunnel or Bonaigua pass: what is the difference?

They are two of the four road entrances the Val d'Aran tourism office lists. The tunnel, on the N-230, links the Alta Ribagorça with Aran, with its southern mouth at 1,626 m and its northern one at 1,390 m. The Bonaigua pass, on the C-28, climbs to 2,072 m from the Pallars. The road estimate to Vielha uses the tunnel; the Baqueira Beret estimate crosses the pass.

Which languages are spoken in the Val d'Aran?

Aranese, the valley's variety of Occitan, is official alongside Catalan and Spanish (Wikipedia). The tourism office credits the Garona's open route north into France with keeping the Occitan language and culture alive in Aran.

Can you drop us in a village rather than in Vielha?

The drop-off is the address you send. The valley has 33 villages, from Bossòst and Les toward France to Arties, Salardú and Baqueira toward the Bonaigua, and naming the village and the building lets the quote reflect the real distance.
