What the journey covers

València is the capital of the Valencian Community and of its province, set on the banks of the Turia on the Mediterranean coast, and Wikipedia counts it as the third most populous city in Spain. Booked with a chauffeur, the trip south becomes a day you plan rather than a ride to a station. You give the time you need to be in València, or the hour you would like to set off, together with any stops, and the journey is quoted around them. That works for a business day, with time to read and make calls on the road and a meeting at the far end, and for a slower trip with lunch by the sea.

Most of the drive is on one motorway. The routed estimate takes the C-31 and C-32 out of Barcelona, joins the AP-7 near El Vendrell and keeps to it down the coast, passing close to Tarragona, Cambrils, Amposta, Peníscola and Castelló de la Plana. Near Sagunt it moves onto the A-7, the Autovía del Mediterráneo, and the V-21 brings it into València from the north. Spain's traffic authority, the DGT, advises a break every 2 hours or 200 km, so plan at least one stop, and the coast towns near the motorway give you a choice of where.

Start of the journey

Pickup in Barcelona

The journey starts at your address in Barcelona: a hotel, a home or an office. For a working day, send the time and place of your first appointment in València, and the departure is worked back from it, breaks included.

Flying into Barcelona and heading south the same day? The Barcelona Airport to València transfer starts at the terminal.

End of the journey

Arrival in València

The journey ends at the address you give in València: an office, a hotel, a home, or Feria Valencia for a trade fair, which Spanish Wikipedia describes as the oldest trade fair institution in Spain.

If all you need is the direct one-way trip, say so in the request and give the exact arrival point: the port terminal and your ship, the station and your train time, or the airport terminal and your flight.

Questions about the Barcelona to València journey

How many breaks does the drive to València need?

At least one. By road, València is about 349 km from Plaça de Catalunya, about 4 h of driving (estimate: OpenStreetMap road routing, no traffic, checked September 30, 2026), and Spain's DGT advises a break every 2 hours or 200 km. Traffic around both cities can add more time.

Where can we stop between Barcelona and València?

The routed line follows the AP-7 near Tarragona, Cambrils, Amposta, Peníscola and Castelló de la Plana. Tarragona has the Roman remains of Tarraco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Peníscola has a Templar castle on a headland above the sea. Put the stop in your request with the time you want to spend there.

Can you take us to Feria Valencia?

Yes. Give the fair's name and, if you know it, the hall or entrance, and list any stand material with the bags. Spanish Wikipedia describes Feria Valencia as the oldest trade fair organizer in Spain (Wikipedia). If you need to come back the same day, give the time you expect to leave.

Where is the City of Arts and Sciences?

At the southeast end of the old Turia riverbed. Santiago Calatrava's complex holds L'Hemisfèric, the science museum, L'Oceanogràfic and the Palau de les Arts (Wikipedia). Give it as the drop-off for a visit or a performance; for a hotel in the old center, near the Silk Exchange, send the street.
