At 4.6 km², Esplugues de Llobregat has the smallest territory of any municipality in the Baix Llobregat, a county it joined in 1990 after years as part of the Barcelonès. It touches Barcelona on one side and Cornellà de Llobregat, Sant Just Desvern, Sant Joan Despí and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat on the others.
