El Besòs i el Maresme is a neighborhood of the Sant Martí district in the far northeast of Barcelona, where the city ends and the municipality of Sant Adrià de Besòs begins. The name pairs the Besòs river with the maresma, the marshy ground that once lay here, crossed by old irrigation channels such as la Madriguera and la Verneda. In 2021 the neighborhood counted 26,116 residents on 127.4 hectares.
Most of its blocks of flats were built in the 1950s and 1960s, when Barcelona was short of housing, and they line the southern stretch of the Rambla de Prim. The seafront part changed for the 2004 Universal Forum of Cultures. The Parc del Fòrum, shared with Diagonal Mar, brought a wide esplanade, a solar pergola and two open-air auditoriums, and the UPC's Campus Diagonal-Besòs, inaugurated in 2016, sits right on the line with Sant Adrià de Besòs.
Trips that start here tend to cross the city or leave it: the airport on the far southwestern side, a cruise ship in the port, a visit to the engineering campus, or the coast road north toward the Costa Brava. Parc del Fòrum
