Montserrat and Boutique Wineries: a Sensor Journey

Monastery first, wine cellar second: this private day links Montserrat with the vineyards of Penedès. A private vehicle and a professional guide are kept for your group for about ten hours, from the morning pickup at your Barcelona accommodation to the drop-off, and the schedule flexes around you. The drive up to Montserrat Natural Park opens views toward the Pyrenees when the air is clear. At the Benedictine monastery your guide takes you to see La Moreneta, the Black Madonna carved in wood in the 12th century, and afterwards you explore the rock formations of the park on foot.

In Penedès the host is a boutique winery run by one family, with roots in the 14th century and a pioneering record in organic and biodynamic growing, and the visit begins with a walk among its historic vineyards. You then go down into its old underground cellars, where the tasting covers three artisanal wines and cavas, set against the vineyards and the distant shape of Montserrat. Pricing is per group, with room for up to six guests, while food or drinks beyond the tasting are extra. Bring a light layer, since the air up at the monastery can be cooler than in Barcelona.
