Ciutat Meridiana fills a steep valley on the slope of the Turó de Roquetes, where Barcelona meets Montcada i Reixac, a town of the Vallès. Building began in 1963 on farmland where a cemetery had once been planned; that plan was dropped because the ground was extremely damp. The neighborhood is named after Avinguda Meridiana.
With Torre Baró and Vallbona it makes up the Zona Nord of Nou Barris, three barris that share a primary care center, social services and a library. Collserola Natural Park bounds the zone to the north, and much of its 308 hectares lies on the range, which is why the terrain is hard going, above all in Ciutat Meridiana and Torre Baró. Here the housing is vertical, in apartment blocks, and the neighborhood holds most of the zone's population, services and economic activity. Escalators on Carrer de les Agudes and Avinguda dels Rasos de Peguera climb up to 22 meters from the square of the line 11 metro station, which opened in 2003.

The aqueduct toward Can Cuiàs
A 19th-century aqueduct, one of those that carried water to Barcelona from the Vallès, crosses the ravine of the Bosc Llarg stream between Ciutat Meridiana and Can Cuiàs, in Montcada i Reixac. It is a protected heritage structure and still carries a water pipe.
