El Bon Pastor lies on the Barcelona side of the Besòs, with Santa Coloma de Gramenet across the river and the boundary of Sant Adrià de Besòs at the edge of the Estadella. For a long time its name meant the cases barates: 784 single-story terraced houses built in 1929 under the Ley de Casas Baratas, most of them no larger than 40 square meters, on river land that then belonged to Santa Coloma.
The group, first named after the army officer Joaquim Milans del Bosch, joined Barcelona in 1943 along with neighboring Baró de Viver, and the barri later took its present name from the parish. No bridge crossed the Besòs here until well into the 1970s. A plan agreed in October 2003 between the residents' association and the municipal housing board provides for demolishing the houses in four phases and rehousing the residents in new blocks on the same land. Around the houses grew the Estadella, with the civic center and the library, and Les Carolines, and in 2000 the La Maquinista shopping center opened where the La Maquinista Terrestre i Marítima works had been.

The cases barates (Milans del Bosch group)
Built in 1929 by the Instituto Municipal de la Vivienda under the Ley de Casas Baratas: 784 single-story terraced houses, most of them up to 40 square meters and about 100 of 80 square meters, in a layout drawn from the garden-city model. The plan agreed in October 2003 provides for their demolition in four phases and new apartment blocks on the same land; the first phase was carried out in 2007 and 2008.
