Chauffeur Service in La Sagrera

Santiago Calatrava's Bac de Roda bridge carries traffic into La Sagrera over three rail lines, among them the high-speed line to the French border. From here a driver takes you to Barcelona Sants, the airport, the cruise port or north to Girona.

Sant Andreu district

La Sagrera, named after protected church land

La Sagrera takes its name from the sagreres of the 11th century: protected ground around churches, set up under Abbot Oliba to shelter farmers from the nobles, where they kept their harvests in small buildings. The first written record of houses here, near the church of Sant Martí de Provençals, dates from 998, and as late as 1877 the settlement's core had about 48 houses.

Until 1897, when Sant Martí de Provençals was absorbed into Barcelona, La Sagrera counted among that town's four population centers. It now belongs to the Sant Andreu district, with 29,908 residents on 98.6 hectares in 2023. In 1911 the Hispano-Suiza car plant opened here; renamed ENASA in 1946, it built Pegaso trucks and had moved to the Zona Franca by 1971, and the Parc de la Pegaso now covers part of its grounds.

The railway still runs through the neighborhood, and a new Sagrera station, under construction when this page was checked, is planned to link the metro with local, regional and high-speed trains. A driver from La Sagrera can take you to Barcelona Sants for a train, to the airport or the cruise terminals, or north toward Girona and the Costa Brava. Tell us where to collect you, at what hour, and how many people and suitcases; each journey from La Sagrera gets its own quote.
