The church on Plaça d'Orfila and the market on Plaça del Mercadal still mark Sant Andreu de Palomar, a town of its own until 1897. From here a driver heads for Sants, the airport, the port, Girona, the Costa Brava or Andorra.

Sant Andreu district

Sant Andreu de Palomar, a town inside the city

Sant Andreu was a municipality of its own until April 20, 1897, when the queen regent Maria Cristina signed the decree that joined Sant Andreu de Palomar to Barcelona. The name pairs the patron saint of the parish with Palomar, a place recorded in a document of 992. The old municipality roughly matched today's Sant Andreu district, Nou Barris and part of Horta-Guinardó; the barri that keeps the name has about 58,200 residents on 187 hectares, between the Carrer de Rovira i Virgili (the old Riera d'Horta), the Passeig de Santa Coloma, the Avinguda Meridiana and the railway lines.

The parish church on Plaça d'Orfila, begun in 1850, got its bell tower in 1889 and its facade in 1904, and the market on Plaça del Mercadal reopened in 2022 after a full rebuild. Industry left its mark as well. The Fabra i Coats thread works on Carrer de Sant Adrià is now partly a cultural center, the Passeig de Fabra i Puig honors two brothers who ran the company, and on the Passeig de Torras i Bages stands the Casa Bloc, the workers' housing that Sert, Torres Clavé and Subirana began in 1932.

From Sant Andreu, a chauffeur takes care of airport and port runs, trains at Barcelona Sants, meetings in other parts of the city and longer drives to Girona, the Costa Brava or Andorra. Send the street and number with the day, the hour and how many are traveling, and the quote is for that journey only.

Questions about a chauffeur in Sant Andreu

Can a driver collect me in the old center, near Plaça d'Orfila?

Yes. Give the street and number, or a corner of Plaça d'Orfila, where the parish church stands, and the time you want to leave. If the address is hard to reach by car, say so in the request and name the nearest street where the car can stop.

I have an event at Fabra i Coats. Can I be dropped off there?

Yes. The former mill lies between Carrer de Sant Adrià and Carrer de Parellada, and part of it is now a cultural center. Give the entrance named on your invitation and the start and end times; the ride home after the event can go in the same request. For several guests or a full program, see Event Chauffeur Service Barcelona.

Can I visit the Casa Bloc with a chauffeur?

The Design Museum of Barcelona shows one apartment of the Casa Bloc, 1/11, on guided visits that have to be booked in advance. Book the visit first, then ask for a quote to Passeig de Torras i Bages, 91-105 for the visit time, with any other stops you want that day.
