The name La Prosperitat first turns up on a 1920 building permit for a house. It has often been traced to a cooperative active in the south of Nou Barris in the 1930s, though more recent studies say nobody knows whom or what it refers to. Until the First World War the land held fields, a few farmhouses and country houses; a partial urban plan drawn up in 1957 set off the growth that filled it.

Four streets frame the neighborhood: Via Júlia, Via Favència, Avinguda Meridiana and Passeig de Valldaura. Via Júlia is a rambla created in the 1980s out of two older streets and named after the official title of Roman Barcino. It carries most of the local shops, and at its end, on Plaça de la República, La Prosperitat meets La Guineueta, Porta and Verdun. On the far side of Avinguda Meridiana, its neighbors belong to another district: Sant Andreu and La Trinitat Vella. On the Pla de Santa Engràcia stand the Casal de Barri Prosperitat and Plaça d'Ángel Pestaña, whose remodeling Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue completed in 2003.

Line 4 of the metro stops at Via Júlia. When a car makes more sense, for suitcases, an early flight or a family outing, write in with your street, the number, the date and where you want to go, and you will be quoted for that one ride.
