The neighborhood takes its name from Can Guineueta, a farmhouse that stood at what is now the corner of Passeig de Valldaura and Carrer de la Gasela. Farming here ended during the 1940s, yet building only began at the end of the 1960s. In 1971 Joaquim Casamor, then director of the city's parks and gardens, laid out the Parc de la Guineueta, a long strip between the blocks of La Guineueta and Verdun, with sports grounds near the Ronda de Dalt and a lake in its lower gardens.
Its limits are the Ronda de Dalt along Via Favència, Carrer de Mont-ral, Passeig d'Urrutia, Passeig de Verdum, Carrer de l'Artesania, Plaça de Karl Marx and Plaça de la República, where four neighborhoods meet. Within them stands the former Institut Mental de la Santa Creu, a psychiatric hospital whose foundation stone was laid in 1885, to designs by Josep Oriol i Bernadet. It now houses the Nou Barris district headquarters and the district library, on Plaça Major de Nou Barris. The Parc Central de Nou Barris, by Carme Fiol and Andreu Arriola, opened its first phase in 1999.

Institut Mental de la Santa Creu (Nou Barris district headquarters)
A private psychiatric hospital of twelve pavilions designed by Josep Oriol i Bernadet, begun in 1885, opened in 1889 and completed in 1915. Today it holds the district headquarters and the Nou Barris library on Plaça Major de Nou Barris, and it is catalogued as a heritage building.

Parc Central de Nou Barris
A 17.7-hectare park by Carme Fiol and Andreu Arriola, opened in phases from 1999. It takes in the Can Carreras and Ca n'Ensenya farmhouses, part of the old Dosrius aqueduct and two lakes.

Parc de la Guineueta
Laid out in 1971 by Joaquim Casamor and named after the Can Guineueta farmhouse. Besides the lake it has a fox (guineu) sculpture by Julià Riu i Serra and a monument to Blas Infante made of eight truncated columns.

Plaça de la República
The square where La Guineueta, La Prosperitat, Porta and Verdun meet, at the junction of Passeig de Valldaura, Passeig de Verdum and Via Júlia. Josep Viladomat's monument La República, made in the 1930s with an effigy of Francesc Pi i Margall, was installed here in 1990. Until 2016 the square was called Plaça de Llucmajor.
