Can Peguera started as a housing scheme. In March 1928 Maria Dolors de Càrcer sold 10.47 hectares of farmland, and between 1929 and 1931 single-storey cases barates (cheap houses) designed by the architect Xavier Turull went up on it, for working families evicted from Montjuïc for the 1929 Exposition. It was one of four groups of this kind created around Barcelona that year. The neighborhood was originally called Ramon Albó; in 1998 the city council renamed it after Can Peguera, an old farmhouse that no longer stands.
It covers about 12 hectares and lies between El Turó de la Peira and La Guineueta, both in Nou Barris, and Horta, in the Horta-Guinardó district. The streets were first numbered, and in 1945 they took the names of towns in the provinces of Girona and Tarragona. In 1947, 116 more homes went up on Passeig d'Urrutia, and 31 followed in 1949. Among the houses stands the neo-Gothic church of Sant Francesc Xavier, begun around 1930.

The cases barates of Can Peguera

Parc del Turó de la Peira
A 7.71-hectare park on the hill that names the neighboring El Turó de la Peira, once a quarry. Pines cover mostly the north slope, and an iron cross marks the top at 138 meters, with views over the city. The landscape architect Nicolau Maria Rubió i Tudurí laid it out during the Transition, his last project.
