The hill in the northwest corner of El Turó de la Peira gives the barri its name. Its pine wood, crowned by a viewpoint and a large cross, belonged to the Can Peguera estate and became a public park in 1936. Later the park was cut back to make room for more than 3,000 homes, put up in a hurry between 1953 and 1961 by the construction company of Romà Sanahuja Bosch for families from the shanty settlements that still stood in Barcelona. In the early 1990s many of those flats were found to suffer from aluminosis, a defect that weakens the concrete, and about 3,000 were replaced or rehabilitated.
Today 16,186 people (2021) live on its 35.4 hectares. Passeig de Fabra i Puig, Passeig d'Urrutia, Carrer del Doctor Pi i Molist and Plaça de Virrei Amat are among its edges. Can Peguera lies to the northwest, La Guineueta to the north, Porta to the east and Vilapicina i la Torre Llobeta to the southeast, while Horta, in Horta-Guinardó, adjoins it to the west. The chapel of Santa Eulàlia de Vilapicina, recorded as early as 991, also stands inside the barri.
