Vilapicina is an old name. It appears in the 10th century as Villa Peciguina (994) and Villa Picina (998), from the Latin pix, picis, the pitch drawn from pine trees to seal ships, and it lives on in the sanctuary of Santa Eulàlia de Vilapicina, which now falls in neighboring El Turó de la Peira. The other half of the name belongs to the Torre Llobeta, a late Gothic manor house documented from the 15th century and the only farmhouse left after Can Gaig, Can Garrigó, Can Sabastida, Can Sitjà and Can Xiringall were pulled down. A housing estate went up around it between 1948 and 1952, and the house became a civic center in 1983.
This is the southernmost of the 13 barris of Nou Barris, with 25,875 residents (2021) on 56.4 hectares. Passeig de Fabra i Puig, its main axis, comes up from the Sant Andreu district and separates it from Porta and El Turó de la Peira; Avinguda Meridiana, Carrer de la Riera d'Horta and Passeig de Maragall are among its other edges. Three passatges of small houses from the 1920s survive. Metro line L5 stops at Virrei Amat and Vilapicina, and L4 at Maragall.

Torre Llobeta civic center
A late Gothic manor house (casa pairal) documented from the 15th century, at Carrer de Santa Fe, 2 bis, on Plaça de la Torre Llobeta. The municipal architect Pere Falqués installed some of the Gothic arches of its facade. It became a civic center in 1983, a library opened on its second floor in 1986, and it is listed as a cultural asset of local interest.
