From Mas Guinardó to Sant Pau
El Guinardó covers 1.31 square kilometers and had 37,325 residents in 2021. It grew where the old towns of Sant Andreu de Palomar and Sant Martí de Provençals met Horta and Gràcia. Carrer de Cartagena divides it from El Baix Guinardó and Carrer de Francesc Alegre from Can Baró, and on its other sides it touches barris of four more districts: Nou Barris, Sant Andreu, Sant Martí and the Eixample.
The name comes from Mas Guinardó, the farmhouse from which Joan Josep d'Àustria directed the siege of Barcelona in 1651 and 1652. Streets were first laid out on the lands of Mas Guinardó and Mas Viladomat in 1896, Passeig de Maragall opened in 1911 and Avinguda de la Mare de Déu de Montserrat in 1913. The Parc del Guinardó, begun in 1916 to a design by Jean-Claude-Nicolas Forestier and built by Nicolau Maria Rubió i Tudurí, covers about 16 hectares of the hillside. On the southern edge of the barri, the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau moved into a new building in 2009, next to Lluís Domènech i Montaner's Modernista pavilions, which now hold a UNESCO-listed museum and cultural center.

Parc del Guinardó
About 16 hectares of terraces and pine woods, begun in 1916 to a design by Forestier and built by his pupil Rubió i Tudurí. The Font del Cuento is older than the park, with 1739 on its lintel, and an Iberian settlement was excavated on the upper part in 1931.

Mas Guinardó
The farmhouse that gave the barri its name, at Carrer Antic del Guinardó, 1-15. Joan Josep d'Àustria directed the 1651-1652 siege of Barcelona from it. The city bought it in 1985 and opened it in 2010 as the Casal d'Entitats Mas Guinardó, a center for local associations.
