Chauffeur Service in El Coll

El Coll's streets slope between two hills, so a park entrance such as the Creueta del Coll's can be a clearer pickup than a house number. A chauffeur collects you there for the airport, a ship or a train at Sants.

Gràcia district

El Coll, between two hills at the top of Gràcia

El Coll occupies the northeastern tip of the Gràcia district, on the slopes between the Turó de la Creueta del Coll and the Turó del Carmel, on both sides of the upper course of the old riera de la Farigola. It is a compact neighborhood of 35.8 hectares, home to 7,688 people in 2021. Historically it belonged to the municipality of Horta, and today it borders Vallcarca i els Penitents and La Salut in Gràcia, and La Teixonera and El Carmel in Horta-Guinardó.

The name comes from the sanctuary of the Mare de Déu del Coll, a church of Romanesque origin documented in the 11th century. Tradition says a wooden image of the Virgin was found in a ravine here. The Parc de la Creueta del Coll opened in 1987 in a disused quarry, to a design by Josep Martorell, Oriol Bohigas and David Mackay, with a lake that serves as a summer pool and Eduardo Chillida's concrete sculpture Elogi de l'aigua hanging from steel cables. Josep Maria Jujol left work here as well: the Finca Sansalvador, begun in 1909 and opened to visitors in 2013, and the Casa dels Metges.

Trips from El Coll start on sloping streets, so give a precise pickup: the street and number, or a landmark such as a park entrance. Add the date and time and the number of guests and bags, and a driver to the airport, the cruise port, a train at Sants or a day on the coast is quoted from there.

A sanctuary, a quarry park and Jujol's houses in El Coll

Every place lists its source. Name the entrance or the street you want, since the park can be entered from more than one side.

  1. Mare de Déu del Coll

The sanctuary that gives the neighborhood its name, documented in the 11th century through a donation by Grau Miró to the monastery of Sant Cugat. Romanesque in origin, it was enlarged around 1930 and reformed in 1948 by Joan Maria Ros after war damage. Its second name, Font-rúbia, recalls a reddish spring. The listed address is Carrer del Santuari, 28-38, beside Plaça de Gibraltar.

  3. Finca Sansalvador

A garden estate by Josep Maria Jujol at Passeig de la Mare de Déu del Coll, 79: walls, carriage house and porter's lodge from 1909 to 1910, and the Casa Queralt from 1916 to 1917. The city bought it in 1979, it opened to the public after restoration in 2013, and the Taller d'Història de Gràcia runs its visits. A deep well on the estate fed a radium water once sold as a remedy.
