Molins de Rei, which grew around royal mills on the Llobregat, still holds the Fira de la Candelera each year, a fair Queen Isabel II instituted in 1852. Fair visitors can be driven in from Barcelona or the airport, and residents out to their flights.

Baix Llobregat

From the king's mills to the foot of Collserola

The town owes its name to mills. In 1188 Alfonso II, King of Aragon and Count of Barcelona, had them built on this stretch of the Llobregat, and a village formed around them. Molins de Rei stands on the left bank of the river; the AMB describes it reaching from the alluvial plain up to the western foothills of the Serra de Collserola, and the Catalan Wikipedia counts the mountain as 88 percent of the municipality. El Papiol and Sant Cugat del Vallès lie to the north, Barcelona to the northeast, Sant Feliu de Llobregat to the south and Sant Vicenç dels Horts, on the far bank, to the west. Idescat records 27,291 residents in 2025 on 15.94 square kilometers.

Roads shaped the place. A stone bridge of fifteen arches, built in the 1760s under Charles III, made Molins de Rei a stop between Madrid and Barcelona until two of its arches collapsed in 1971. The Fira de la Candelera, instituted by Queen Isabel II in 1852, is still held every year, and the Ferrer i Mora spinning mill, known as El Molí, became the town library in 2019.

Today the N-340 crosses the town and the A-2 motorway runs along the El Canal district, while Rodalies R4 trains stop at the station. For a car, tell us the street, the hour and the destination: El Prat, an office in Barcelona or a vineyard in the Penedès.

Questions about a chauffeur in Molins de Rei

Can I hire a driver for a visit to the Fira de la Candelera?

Yes, as a return trip or as a chauffeur by the hour if you want the car to wait between stops. The fair has run since Queen Isabel II instituted it, so check this year's dates with the town council, then send the pickup address and the times you want.

Do you pick up in the hill districts on the Collserola side?

Send the street and number, or a map pin, for any address in the municipality. Most of Molins de Rei is mountain within the Collserola range, so a precise point matters more here than in a flat town. The quote is prepared for that exact pickup.

What do I send for a ride from Molins de Rei to El Prat?

The street, the flight time, the terminal (T1 or T2), and how many guests and bags are traveling. The Barcelona Airport transfer page covers both directions. This site has no Molins de Rei airport route page, so no drive time is quoted in advance.

Why book a car when Molins de Rei has a train station?

The R4 is a good choice for a trip into Barcelona with light bags. A car is worth asking about for door-to-door journeys: an early flight, a group with suitcases, or a day with several stops, such as Montserrat in the morning and a winery in the Penedès after lunch.

Can I use a driver for meetings around Molins de Rei and Barcelona?

Yes, as business travel or by the hour. List each stop with its time, for example an office in Molins de Rei, a client in Sant Cugat del Vallès and a return to Barcelona, and the quote covers that plan.
