Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district
Sarrià, the last town to join Barcelona
For centuries Sarrià was a town of its own. It first appears in a record of 986, and it stayed independent until 1921, when it became the last municipality annexed to Barcelona, despite opposition from its residents. It is now a neighborhood of the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district in the upper west of the city, covering about 305 hectares with roughly 24,800 inhabitants (2021). Pedralbes lies to the southwest, Les Tres Torres and Sant Gervasi-la Bonanova to the east, and Vallvidrera, el Tibidabo i les Planes to the north.
Carrer Major de Sarrià runs through Plaça de Sarrià, where the parish church of Sant Vicenç is documented in the 10th century; the present neoclassical church was begun in 1779 and its bell tower finished in 1818. The poet J.V. Foix had a pastry shop on the square, and it is still open as Foix de Sarrià. On Passeig de la Reina Elisenda de Montcada, the other street that crosses the square, the Mercat de Sarrià, an iron-framed modernista market, opened in 1911.
From a house in Sarrià, you can be driven to the airport, across Barcelona to a meeting or a school, or out of the city for a day. Send the pickup street, the date and hour, and the party with its luggage, and the quote is based on those details.
