Ciutat Vella district

Three old quarters on the Ribera side of Via Laietana

Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera is a Ciutat Vella neighborhood made of three historic quarters: Sant Pere and Santa Caterina, which keep their medieval street plan, and La Ribera, once called Vilanova del Mar, whose streets around Passeig del Born are known as El Born. It lies inside the line of the old city walls, with Via Laietana on one side and Passeig de Lluís Companys and the Parc de la Ciutadella on the other, and the Rec Comtal channel used to run through it. In 2021 it had 23,009 residents on 111 hectares.

La Ribera was the quarter of shipowners, merchants and harbor porters, and they paid for Santa Maria del Mar with their money or their labor: its first stone was laid in 1329 and its last keystone in 1383. Carrer de Montcada holds the Museu Picasso, open to the public from 1963, and the old Born market hall now shows archaeological remains of the 1713-1714 siege. In Sant Pere, Lluís Domènech i Montaner's Palau de la Música Catalana opened in 1908 for the Orfeó Català choral society, and the Mercat de Santa Caterina reopened in 2005 after a rebuild by Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue.

With a chauffeur, the journey can begin at the Palau after a concert, at Estació de França on Avinguda del Marquès de l'Argentera or at a hotel near the Born, and end at the airport, a cruise ship or a town outside Barcelona. Name the venue or street and the time, and the trip is quoted.
