Ciutat Vella district, Barcelona
Chauffeur Service in Gothic Quarter
Most of the Barri Gòtic is closed to regular traffic, so the first detail to settle is where the car can meet you. Name your hotel or street, and that pickup point is agreed along with the quote for the airport, the port or Sants.
Ciutat Vella district
The Barri Gòtic, from La Rambla to Via Laietana
El Barri Gòtic is one of the four neighborhoods of the Ciutat Vella district and covers the oldest part of the city. Its limits are La Rambla on one side, Via Laietana on the other, Plaça de Catalunya at the inland end and the sea at the other. Plaça de Sant Jaume, near the middle, stands roughly where the two main streets of Roman Barcino crossed at the forum. The name is younger than it sounds: Ramon Rucabado used "Barri Gòtic" in a 1911 article, and it became an official neighborhood only in 1984.
Within those few blocks you find the cathedral, whose Gothic building work started in 1298, the Palau de la Generalitat and the Casa de la Ciutat facing each other across Plaça de Sant Jaume, Plaça del Rei, Plaça Reial and El Call, the medieval Jewish quarter. Much of what looks medieval was rebuilt in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The street plan is a maze of small streets that open into squares, and most of it is closed to regular traffic, although service vehicles and taxis can enter. So with a chauffeur here, the first detail to settle is where the car meets you. Put the hotel or street in your request, together with the time and where you are heading, and the pickup point is agreed as part of the quote.

Questions about a chauffeur in el Barri Gòtic
Can a car reach my hotel in the Barri Gòtic?
Most of the quarter is closed to regular traffic, although service vehicles and taxis can enter. Give the hotel name and street when you ask for a quote. If the car cannot reach the door, the pickup point is agreed in advance on a nearby street it can use, such as Via Laietana or a street off La Rambla.
How long is the drive from the airport to the Gothic Quarter?
OpenStreetMap road routing to Plaça de Catalunya, which the quarter shares with La Dreta de l'Eixample, gives 17 km, about 20 min by road without traffic from Terminal 1, and about 14 km, also about 20 minutes, from Terminal 2 (checked September 30, 2026). Streets nearer the sea add a little, and traffic changes the real time. See Barcelona Airport to Barcelona City Transfer.
I am staying near the cathedral before a cruise. Can you take us to the ship?
Yes. Send the ship name, the sailing date and the time you want to leave, and the number of guests and bags. The Port of Barcelona lists seven international passenger terminals, on the Adossat quay and the Barcelona quay, so the terminal name helps. The return trip from the ship to an old town hotel is on Barcelona Cruise Port to Hotel Transfer.
Do any private tours include the Gothic Quarter?
Two of the city tours list it among their stops: The Essence of Barcelona and Barcelona Highlights and Park Güell. Both include a private vehicle for your group with hotel pickup and drop-off, and they are booked online. All the tours are on private tours.
Can I keep a driver for a day trip out of the old town?
Yes. Girona, Tarragona and Montserrat each have their own page under Popular journeys. For a day with several stops and no fixed route, a chauffeur by the hour keeps a vehicle and driver for the hours you set. Tell us the plan and the start time from your hotel.
