Eixample district

Fort Pienc, the Eixample's railway corner

Fort Pienc is named after a fort. Fort Pius, which honored Francesco Pio di Savoia, marquis of Castel Rodrigo and captain general of Catalonia, stood on this ground until the 19th century, and the streets that took its place belong to the Eixample laid out under Ildefons Cerdà's 1859 plan. It is the eastern end of the Eixample district: the boundary follows Avinguda Diagonal from Carrer de Nàpols to Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes, then Avinguda Meridiana, Carrer dels Almogàvers, Carrer de Roger de Flor, Avinguda de Vilanova, Passeig de Sant Joan and the Gran Via. In 2024, 36,773 people lived on its 92.9 hectares.

The railway shaped much of it. The Estació del Nord opened as a train station in 1861 and gained a large metal roof in 1910; today it is a bus station with national and international routes. Around the 1992 Olympics, disused rail land was turned into parks and cultural buildings, and on Plaça de les Arts the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya now stands across from L'Auditori.

A driver from Fort Pienc can cover a bus arriving at the Estació del Nord, a concert or play that ends late, a morning at the Encants market by Glòries, or a run to the airport or Barcelona Sants. Give the venue or the address, the hour and the number in your party; the quote is drawn up for that outing.

Questions about a chauffeur in el Fort Pienc

Can I book a car from the Estació del Nord bus station?

Yes. The bus station is inside Fort Pienc, and a trip from it is quoted like any other: send the arrival date and time, the bus company if you know it, where you are going and how many guests and bags. Barcelona's tourism office lists it as an arrival point for national and international bus services.

Can a driver collect us after a concert at L'Auditori or a play at the TNC?

Yes. Give the venue and the time the performance is due to end. L'Auditori's addresses include Carrer de Lepant, 150, and the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya is across from it at Plaça de les Arts, 1, so say which of the two buildings you will come out of.

Where is the Encants flea market, and can I be dropped off there?

The market, officially Mercat Encants Barcelona, Fira de Bellcaire, gives its address as Carrer de los Castillejos, 158, by Plaça de les Glòries. Ask for a drop-off at that address, and add a pickup time if you want a ride back afterwards.

How do I get from Fort Pienc to a train at Barcelona Sants?

Ask for a station transfer, described on Barcelona Sants Station Transfer. Send the train time, your address in Fort Pienc and the number of bags, and allow some margin for traffic across the Eixample.

Are prices shown for trips from Fort Pienc?

No. Prices are not published on this site; each trip is quoted from its route, date, time, guests and bags. For a concert night, add the venue and the expected end time so the quote fits the evening.
